Introduction

Children start our pre-school from two years old, and remain with us until they are 4 +

Skidby pre-school is a charitable organisation which is committee based run by parents of the setting, and has excellent links with Skidby primary school. We work together as a partnership in the pre-school education we provide.

The committee has responsibility for the running of Skidby pre-school, and hold meetings to discuss fund-raising, the day to day running of the sessions, financial budgets for equipment, stationery etc. All staff are employed by the committee, and are subject to the policies and discipline of Skidby pre-school. The staff are well qualified, motivated, and personally committed to providing good quality care and education for your children. Parental involvement is encouraged, and parents are active in supporting the group in many ways.

Induction Session

All children who are new to Skidby pre-school are invited to attend with their parents/carers before their due start date. This enables them to recognise a friendly face when they start not long after, and get a feel for the setting and the toys and activities on offer, while parents/carers talk to staff.

Equipment

We have resources and equipment to vary and maintain interest of our children so that they develop in all areas of the curriculum. This is updated when there is fundraising money available, and is usually sourced from an educational catalogue or store that complies with guidelines for quality, safety and suitability.

Staff and Training

We have well qualified pre-school practitioners and are committed to providing an ongoing programme of training. As members of the EYFS, we are constantly in touch with new developments in the field of child education and care.

Curriculum

As part of the East Riding Early Years plan we are working to the EYFS curriculum guidance for the Foundation Stage Early Learning Goals, and planning towards the foundation stage for children’s learning, and we are subject to OFSTED inspections.

Special Events

We celebrate a child’s birthday by singing happy birthday with all the children, and we give a special birthday card from all the pre-school children and staff.

Special Needs

Within our setting we aim to provide

Learning opportunities for all children. All our activities and provisions are planned and designed to cater for the needs of all children, so that everybody is included. Please feel free to speak to the leader about any individual needs that your child/children may have, so that they can have a fun and happy time in our setting.

Equality of Opportunity

We will ensure that our service is fully inclusive in meeting the needs of all children, particularly those that arise from their ethnic heritage, social and economic background, gender, ability or disability. Our setting is committed to non-discriminatory practice promoting equality of opportunity and valuing diversity for all children and families.

Links with other organisations

The school hold a breakfast club of which our member of staff – Miss Jessica Raper is leader of, it is run in the pre-school from 07.30am until 8.45am when the children are then taken to the school hall. Please see Jessica for further details of costs etc.

Policies

Our policies file can be viewed at any time within the Pre-school session times. Our policies were reviewed February 2009, but they are under frequent review.

Registration

If you wish to register your child with us for a place at pre-school please complete an application form. One can be obtained from our play leader Mrs Helen Altass.

Admissions Policy

It is our intention to make pre-school accessible to children and their families from all sections of the local community and surrounding areas. A waiting list will be in place if a few children require a place. Our maximum places are 18

Complaints Procedure

We take complaints seriously and those received are dealt with fairly and in a way which respects confidentiality. We believe that children, parents or carers are entitled to expect courtesy, and prompt careful attention to their needs. We will work in partnership with parents and welcome suggestions of how we could improve our procedures. A complaint record will be kept and made available to OFSTED at all inspections.

The parent should put all complaints in writing; a record form will be provided and handed to the leader on completion of the complaint. The leader will deal internally with the complaint, unless OFSTED has been contacted. A reply will be made within 28 days of receiving the complaint, and if the matter is unresolved the final decision will rest with the committee of the pre-school.

Safeguarding and welfare of children

The safety of young children in our care is of paramount importance, and we follow our health and safety policy carefully in order to ensure correct practice in relation to fire drills, safe equipment etc.

Health and safety

We promote a healthy life style and a high standard of hygiene. Parents are asked to keep children at home if they have infection, and to inform pre-school of the nature of the infection if it will have an effect on any other children who were in their presence.

We will only administer prescribed medicines if parental permission has been sought and a medical form has been filled in by the parents. All staff are trained in paediatric first aid.

Hygiene practice

Adults in our group will ensure that the following good practices are observed.

  • Hands washed after toilet and before a snack or lunch.

  • Tissues are available to blow and wipe noses

  • No smoking is allowed on the premises

  • Spare clothing is available in case of accidents, and polythene bags are available for soiled garments.

  • All surfaces are cleaned daily with sanitizer spray

  • The toilets and floors are cleaned daily by the school cleaner.

We hope you find our prospectus useful, and we look forward to welcoming you to our pre-school.
